Trend VS Reality

Trend VS Reality

I've been eager to share this with you all for a while, and now feels like the right moment. I believe it's crucial to connect with our Tech HR community.

Let me take you through my journey in IT. In 2018, I made the leap from traditional HR to IT HR. This transition allowed me to witness a significant shift from the pre-COVID era to the post-COVID online world.

From where I stand, there are two distinct groups in our Tech HR field.

First, we have individuals with strong educational backgrounds, often preferred by well-known IT companies in Pakistan. They are tech-savvy, great communicators, and brimming with confidence.

But, they often miss out on building professional relationships within our community, as they tend to focus mainly on self-learning.

The second group, to which I also belong, includes people from more modest backgrounds. Many of them come from non-IT backgrounds and often work in small or mid-level software companies in Pakistan. They are the hustlers, the hard workers, always striving to join tier 1 software companies.

Sadly, they often face challenges in achieving this goal. While there are various reasons for this, one key factor, in my opinion, is their relatively lower technical expertise and wrong way of personal branding.

They tend to put more effort into networking and increasing their followers on LinkedIn rather than sharpening their technical skills.

When it comes to professional networking, quality should always trump quantity. It's not about collecting a vast number of connections on platforms like LinkedIn; it's about building meaningful, authentic relationships with individuals who share your professional interests and values. In essence, the true strength of your network lies not in its size but in the authenticity and trust you've cultivated with those in it.

After closely observing both groups, I've reached the conclusion that those who bridge this gap, no matter their background, achieve something remarkable.

I'm finally sharing these thoughts I've held back for years.

I have immense respect for those who are diligently working and striving to advance in their careers.

Rightly pointed out Saad! At the end of the day it simply boils down to human interaction, relationships and ultimately building synergies.

Saad Farooq Finally, someone has said what I've always been thinking. You're ?? right that having real connections on LinkedIn is more important than just having a lot of them. The approach of senior tech professionals who focus solely on followers is affecting the juniors and pushing them into a networking race, while they forget to work on their skills. So, Saad, please keep talking about this because it's a big deal in our tech HR world.
