As a marketeer you need to continuously be on top of new trends. You need to be both reactive and proactive to ensure your brand and business doesn’t get left behind and stagnant. As a mum of two Generation Alpha kids, it’s got me thinking of how this generation will shop in the future, what will their expectations be of a retail environment and how will this shape the future of retail?
A recent shopping experience with my daughter (12) exposed some very different habits. The chaotic clutter, congested visual merchandising of stores and queuing for changing rooms exposes a lack of patience and ability to visualise products by this generation. Will this lead us to a generation of metaverse shoppers? Where a place gives way to the alpha generation who want a full retail experience in a virtual way. Where they can try on the products through a metaverse that allows them to then click and collect in store, knowing what they have purchased already fits and is what they want. Does this help with sustainability and less waste? Will this help reduce the number of online order returns? Or is this just a step too far!
How will this metaverse concept transform stores? This generation despises clutter but expects everything on demand. Will this lead to a minimalistic store, only displaying one size but with the ability to scan your body, predict the size and the automated store assistant brings you the perfect fit?

It is going to be an interesting time seeing the changing face of retail and what new trends and demands a future generation brings. But one thing is for certain is that change happens, and we all need to be ready to embrace it.
