A Tree and its boughs
A tree supports its branches. The branches are just stems initially. Then they start growing into strong branches. Gradually it is able to bear more leaves. It flowers and fruits also appear in due course of time. But it happens gradually. The tree requires to have patience. All this time the trunk is supporting its branches. It is only giving. Not expecting anything in return. While the branches are growing, the trunk keeps a balance so that the tree does not uproot itself. It knows that any too many branches on one side will result in the destruction of the tree. It is neutral. It equal nutrition to all the branches. Together the tree and the branches provide shade, oxygen fruits, etc to humans and animals. If the tree is hit by a storm, each branch maintains its position to prevent the tree from uprooting. They balance and brave out the storm.
I find this an extremely good example of a leader grooming its team. Providing guidance and support to ensure that the team grows. Lots of learning takes place as there is intra dependence and all of them stand together against the outer forces if there is any threat to the organization. Each one contributes to solve the problems. And as the organization grows, so do the people alongwith it.
When I took up the position in this new school, I was micromanaging each issue. I was open for suggestions, but kept the leads in my hand. After two months of rigorous working, I loosened the strings and started giving the responsibility to the teachers. They faltered but learnt to manage. Now I can see them taking the initiative in every aspect and working independently. The results are much better than my earlier two months. Each individual is planning, developing, brain storming and coming up with a solution. They have learnt to depend on each other when they are hit with a road block. They offer so many suggestions. At times they discuss an innovative idea among themselves and then approach me to culminate it into implementation. They take responsibility of each and every thing under their care. There are part time teachers. So in their absence, others fill the space if a necessary gap occurs.
My team is small but closeknit and they will pave the way for the future. Bless them all!
Teaching is my passion
