What do you do? How did you end up in this role?

Some choose a role and for some, the role chooses them. I fall into the later one. I work as a Hiring Scientist at Cyware Labs.

Tell us about your recent HR initiatives in your company (if not your own, feel free to share an effective initiative that you came across recently).

The employees make an organization. We are attracting, developing and retaining talented people by giving them an openness and flexibility in their job roles, allowing them to craft their own job, and by abolishing the fixed yearly appraisal cycle but providing them an opportunity to earn and grow as they show.

How are you leveraging social media (other than LinkedIn) to hire the right kind of talent for your organization?

These tools come in handy, most of the companies showing their culture through social media platforms and making a disguise. Treat your present employees well. This will make the hiring 100 times easier. Community-based hiring would help one a lot, it increases productivity and longevity. But one platform at the moments which is rocking is Instahyre, you can bet on it for all your technical hiring roles.

What are the HR tools you use on a daily basis?

Well, a proper applicant tracking system or a talent acquisition software will help a company in a greater way. I loved to used tools like "Codility" which helps tech recruiters to hire better engineers. And an ATS "Greenhouse" which is my go-to hiring management software. And one definitely needs an ESS software in an organization, and I usually use Zoho ESS with ease. Also, you can use "Calendly" and "GoToMeeting" which makes your life easier in scheduling things and to speed up the process.

What according to you are the recent trends in HR that you see important?

Hiring for talent instead of a skill. Nowadays we tend to see a lot of polyglot programmers and trust me they're the best in programming. They know in and out and can play around with anything you give them. Go for them and convince your technical team over skill-based hiring. Let them craft their own job role, give flexibility and freedom to operate.

What are your thoughts on the impact of new technologies like Blockchain when it comes to HR practices?

Blockchain guarantees the data is certified and can’t be manipulated. Hence it has its future in HR Practices, employee data for background checks/verification, health care benefits, in payroll and contract jobs.

What advice would you give to a student about to enter the professional world?

Most of the freshers I have seen are desperate for a job at the last moment is actually not prepared for the corporate world. I come across these students and I would suggest them to practice the basics. The world we live in now is having more useful platforms and resources which can help the budding student to learn and land on a good job. They can use platforms like Hackerrank, Codechef and many more to practice their coding abilities. If one has to learn programming languages they can use platforms like Udemy, Udacity, Coursera, Lynda etc.

What would be your two quick tips to ace an interview?

Do your own research first to see if you're the right match for the job, ask the questions why and why not. Know about the company and it's culture, check your technical skills and your behavior skills are aligned to the values of the company. There you go, you have cracked it.

What are the key daily habits that you've developed in the recent past?

To-do list for the entire day and adding things in between makes my life easier.

What is the book (or books) you’ve given most as a gift, and why? Or what are one to three books that have greatly influenced your life?

"When I stop talking you'll know I'm dead" - Jerry Weintraub

Do you stick to some values or guiding thoughts? How do you actually think that people should develop these or stick to those?

1.Being honest with yourself

2.Trustworthiness

3.Being Transparent and Open

These are the values you can adhere from early childhood. If you didn't get that chance, still you can get it over a period of time by being with the right people who have these values.
