A leading construction and civil engineering company, that currently supports the maintenance of the A19 and A174 roads, has switched from traditional two-way radios to use of a brand-new Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) solution to support operational efficiency and worker safety.

The company, already a customer of Eemits, had come to the end of an existing agreement for two-way radios and were looking for a new solution to support their work on the highways.

They required a new solution that gave them reliable coverage where they could roam from point-to-point and communicate effectively.

PoC works on cellular network coverage, so regional communication was achievable as standard - as well as the ability to use the Eemits TRBOCALL mobile client, giving them instant Push-To-Talk (PTT) access.

PTT over Cellular & Broadband coverage

Push-to-Talk Over Cellular works over 4G/LTE/WiFi connectivity, so coverage is achieved on a nationwide scale without the need foradditional infrastructure - like you’d possibly experience with DigitalMobile Radio (DMR) networks.

This gave the customer a cost-effective solution that could be used anywhere in the UK and the system has accessible features via the TRBOCALL mobile app.

Multi-network data-only roaming sims were recommended and implemented, as the SIMs automatically roam and choose the best coverage provider based on a precise location.

Inrico & Telox devices for high-quality performance

Inrico TMR 7 Plus

The Inrico TMR 7 Plus is an in-vehicle device that is Android based and is used over PoC networks for seamless coverage. It features high-quality audio (5W loudspeaker) for both audio streaming and comms use.

This is ideal for the customer as workers are operating over a vast amount of space and there may be background noise from traffic and other sources.

The device also features GPS tracking, an emergency panic alarm, and comes with a 4G antenna for optimal coverage service.

The Telox TE320

The Telox TE320 is a lightweight PoC device that boasts similar features to the Inrico TMR 7 Plus.

It has a 3W loudspeaker for clear communication, an emergency panic alarm for worker safety, and has built-in GPS location tracking for seamless connectivity with the TRBOCALL mobile and desktop apps.

One-to-One, One-to-Group, and other software options

One-to-Group Call

The use of One-to-Group calls is vital when a supervisor needs to speak with multiple workers at once. This will be common due to the nature of maintaining busy roads like the A19 and the A174.

One-to-One Call (Private)

Sometimes it’s more appropriate to speak to someone on a one-to-one basis, whether it be for ease of use or to get a specific message across to one person. In a job where people are constantly coming and going, this feature is vital.

Emergency Call

The nature of preserving roads means workers can be at a greater risk of emergency situations unfolding. Each end user’s device is supported with a dedicated emergency panic button.

Once pressed, all other device users will be alerted to a problem, and the exact location of the issue will be shared via GPS signal.

Text messaging

Text messaging is a handy feature when people are either on foot or in a parked vehicle. There may be scenarios where it’s quicker or safer to relay a message via text message.
