Travelogue - a solo trip that empowered me
"Where no one knows you and you hold your life in your hands all alone, you are more master of yourself than at any other time.’ – #HannahArendt
Finding myself, befriending strangers, shunning the taboos, going beyond the mundane, crossing my limitations, moving beyond my comfort zone - the #solotrip I took to #Kurseong empowered me, liberated me, gave me the confidence to outgrow myself, learn new life lessons and so much more.?
The hills have always enchanted me since childhood. School vacations meant traveling to the hills where Baba mostly took me. The first time I traveled by myself was on a departmental trip organized by our University English department (again to the hills, Gangtok).?
On my first solo trip in 2019 for two days, I headed to a village named #Ramdura, 15km away from Kalimpong. Hills have always been my best bet! That trip was concluded by two of my friends joining me for 2 days.?
A couple of plans (starting in April 2022) for this vacation were getting canceled and remade, making me restless. Come 2022 May, I was ready to go for my first exclusive solo trip. I was seeking an experience that would enable me to challenge myself and be just with myself.?

The moments with the hills were mystical and magical, with the solitude completely enthralling and engrossing me.?It was empowering indeed to feel absolute freedom and know that I am the only one there, following my impulse.
Being by myself in the unknown forests, the hills, the roads and everything about the hills made me let go of all inhibitions, without even realizing when and how. It all just happened so smoothly, without me having to give any effort or think of what will happen next.?
The solo trip made me feel like a traveler rather than a tourist,?liberating me in many ways, and enabling me to feel proud of myself, my journey, good, bad, and ugly.
A big thank you to all who believed I could, to all who tried to nudge my confidence, to all at my workplace #praxis for empowering me, to people who kept on encouraging me, and to the friends I made there! Cheers ??
