Travelling Home For Christmas? Stay stress-free and festive with these top tips!
Whether you are Driving Home for Christmas like the song says, or flying or riding, there are some simple things you can do to minimise the stress of travelling at such a busy time.?Here are a few things to keep in mind this season...
Book Tickets In Advance
If you can book your tickets early, you’ll have less to worry about nearer the time, and often you can grab a better deal too.?If possible, avoid travelling at peak times for an extra saving.
If you are travelling by train or coach, and there is an option to reserve a particular seat, then do it – it’ll save you scrambling on the day!
Leave Early
Last year, the RAC estimated that 27m people would travel to see family between the 17th of December and Christmas Eve. That’s a lot of folks!?This means that roads and stations are much busier and harder to navigate quickly.?Give yourself the best chance of reaching the station or airport on time by setting out a bit earlier.?If you are driving, schedule in extra time for rest-stops and traffic jams.
Don’t Overpack
Struggling with a large, heavy suitcase is the last thing you need when trying to run for a plane or squeeze into a Tube train.?Only take what you actually need and, if you can, order presents online to be sent direct to your destination – that way you won’t forget anyone’s present and you’ll have a much lighter suitcase.

Bring Snacks and a Drink
British weather is unpredictable and public transport is usually one of the most affected. If you end up getting delayed on a train, or stuck on a coach in traffic, you’ll likely get peckish. Make sure you have some water to slurp and festive treats to nibble on while you wait – and perhaps a book or a podcast to listen to!
Arrange Transport From The Station/Airport
Whether you book a taxi or pre-arrange a lift, organising your transport ahead of time will save you waiting outside the station in the cold and dark. Consider downloading a tracking app that will allow your friends and family to see where you are and track your arrival time.
?? Remember, if you organised your travel with us, we are also only ever a phone call away – so if something unexpected arises, we can support you, no matter where in the world you are.
Wishing you all safe travels this season!
Enjoy the festive fun,
