Summer Travel

We returned from our first family trip since the pandemic less than two weeks ago, and honestly, getting the right time for our family of five was more challenging than the actual trip, LOL.

I am glad it finally happened, as this had been years in the making due to conflicting schedules, pandemic, and availability.

While we've only been back for a few weeks, there is an overwhelming sense of gratitude and reinvigoration. Leaving the familiar, 'our homes' for the unfamiliar affirms the famous T.S. Eliot quote, "The journey, not the arrival, matters."

Movement helps, and shifting one's position is powerful.

Summarily, Travel is an elixir.

Traveling can help a leader improve in several ways because of what it offers on a personal and professional level. While not everyone can travel extensively, occasional trips away from one's relative known spaces can enrich one's life and leadership abilities.

Why travel matters

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” — Mark Twain

Firstly, traveling exposes them to diverse cultures and perspectives, enhancing their understanding and empathy. Secondly, it fosters adaptability and problem-solving skills as they navigate new environments. Additionally, traveling enables networking opportunities and building valuable connections. Lastly, it provides a chance to learn from other leaders and best practices worldwide, contributing to personal and professional growth.

Here are three quotes that capture the value of traveling:

1. "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page." — Saint Augustine

2. "Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world." — Gustave Flaubert

3. "To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries." — Aldous Huxley

Traveling leaders become more self-aware, informed, open-minded, understanding, and reflective. If you are trying to become that leader others admire, then unequivocally, Travel is necessary.?

Summer is an excellent time to explore, and I hope you find time to travel.

Love this, Dr. Flo - and the quotes - especially as I've spent the last pandemic years planning traveling reunions on both sides of my family! The journey through planning is a story itself - as we haven't had one since 2008, we may as well have been strangers - through the leadership styles and governance issues. The results are valuable content to share relationship building of all ages.
