Travelers are hungry for food content. Are you starving them?

We joined the world in celebrating Anthony Bourdain’s brilliance on June 25th, and wrote an article about how much we, in the travel industry can learn from his legacy. A master storyteller, Bourdain reminds us how layered food tourism content can and should be. Food shouldn’t just be listed under ‘Things to do’ or ‘Experiences’ on travel websites. It’s a main course, starter and dessert. It’s also an appetizer and aperitif, so please pepper your website with produce. Read our tips on how to do this in our series of food content articles below.

Food Stories Unknown

Even when you have been traveling nearly non-stop for fifteen years, like me, there are places that snap you out of your comfortable worldview, take your assumptions and your prejudices and turn them upside down. They lead you to believe that, maybe, there is hope in the world.” Anthony Bourdain, 1956-2018.

In our recent article, (which people have been eating up by the looks of our engagement figures), Food Stories Unknown - we look at ways in which the sustainable travel industry can learn from the legacy of the late, great Anthony Bourdain.

Food Tourism and Content Creation - A Recipe That Will Be Passed Down Through the Generations

Now all you have to do is find your destination or travel product’s food stories. There is no doubt that great food tourism not only attracts culinary culture vultures, but also travelers in all sectors. The chef who forages for wild ingredients can spread his seeds of knowledge on walking or nature trails pages. Kayakers will kill for a list of riverside eateries and cyclists will race each other to the best breweries. Families will scream for ice cream makers’ stories. Our article on Food tourism and Content Creation gives you the recipe for foodie success when it comes to content. Or check out our film about NYC-based Pierre Thiam, a chef, author, and social activist who is celebrated for bringing West African cuisine to the global fine dining world.?

Intangible Cultural Heritage in Travel Content

It’s a mystery as to why the UN’s list of “Intangible Cultural Heritage” is not better known in sustainable tourism circles. From culinary to poetry traditions, dances to dramatic performances, there are cultural heritage gems around the globe that the UN seeks to protect. What are your destination’s intangibles? In our article Intangible Culture in Travel Content, learn how to touch on the intangible in your travel content. You don’t need a UN blessing to big them up.?

“We use food as medicine. When your heart is full you’re not stressed. We have a good heart. Bright smiles on our faces. It’s connected.” Supan Inthachai, founder of Baan Rai Kong homestay community in Thailand’s Chiang Mai region, hits the nail on the head when talking about local and organic food.?
