Travel not as we know it
For those lucky enough to escape the UK for a period and other hard hit nations during the past year or so we all still live the 'depression' that has set in in some way or another. The UK has been extremely generous to workers if you compare against many other countries and having our own Vaccine is a huge feat despite a very rocky start in managing the virus. I am convinced despite this serious adversity and suffering many good things are yet to come including consideration for travel and many new business ideas and personal realisation. It has made us all 'grounded' and in touch with the reality of life.
Airlines, Shipping and other transportation firms are hit so hard they have to think creatively about how they get back to some sort of normality cash flow wise. And then there is the environment, we as humans cannot keep acting as we do, there has to be change. Seaspiracy aside (fairly contentious heartbreaking production albeit I am personally not convinced 100% correct but will agree to 80% which is bad) this time of "pause" has made most seriously consider their future, life decisions including those that were not happy even before the Pandemic. Some, like me beforehand, will re-locate in search of a better life be that a more calm environment to be able to actually perform better in business or perhaps to escape the 'rat race' or in search of something new. Moving to Lithuania was not a big decision, as much as I am proud to be British I wanted something different, better for me, which ties in nicely with my career change to provide construction supply chain to the world. But of course being able to travel at the drop of a hat makes all the difference, I am just not capable of living in the same place full time without venturing out to new places and to make connection with our supply chain which appreciate the human touch and genuinely want to help us build our business.
"Acceleration of organizations to move to managed business travel: Many organizations have suffered financially during the pandemic. This will bring cost efficiency and productivity to the forefront. While 60% of the business travel is still served by a fragmented, unorganised sector, the trend by these organization will be to move towards managed travel. This will help them reduce their costs and improve productivity due to better co-ordination & cheaper prices. Secondly, moving to a managed travel helps organizations to tighten their travel policy, provide more control on discretionary spend and implement more rigor in managing their budgets in real-time." It has also made us all consider our own mortality and the amazing support of those front line workers. The UK pulling together eventually similar perhaps to a war time spirit.
The progress we have made establishing Anglo Russian Timber Alliance and soon to come West Indies Lumber and Balkan Timber Alliance now under one banner Octavius GB Ltd has been fruitful during these challenging times and given me personally time to think about creating what I consider a legacy.
