Travel Smarter with the City Maximizer Method
The month of May was packed this year…
I had gigs in Orlando, Cleveland, and Oklahoma City… then Pittsburgh and Chicago… before heading back to home base in Boca Raton for two virtual gigs.
And right now, I’m sitting in a hotel room in the mile high city where I just spoke to some of the best marketing talent in the country at the Digital Summit Denver.
That’s the life of a keynote speaker, right???
Frequent travel , tons of excitement, and lots of people.?
Gotta love it! ??
But when you’re on the road all the time, it’s hard to find any time to focus on one of the most important aspects of a sustainable speaking business… relationships.
It’s the connections you build with event organizers, business leaders, and other speakers that fuel your business and lead to new opportunities.? In fact, my buddy Michael Port and I teach in our Speaking Business Mastery course that “conversations lead to conversions.”??
That’s why I thought we’d spend this week looking at my City Maximizer Method.? It’s a technique I’ve developed to help you maximize your time in every new city… so you can have more conversations that lead to more conversions.
At its core, you’ll use your time strategically in each new city or town to meet with other people, make new connections, and expand the opportunities that might be coming your way.
Geesh… that already sounds hard, doesn’t it?
It’s really not.??
First, here are four roadblocks that stop most speakers from maximizing their time.
?? Lack of Awareness:
Many people don't realize the benefits of chatting with local contacts when traveling to a new city. Building a deliberate strategy to strengthen relationships during these trips can be incredibly powerful.
? No Time or Energy:
Traveling extensively, especially for speaking engagements, is exhausting.? Full stop.?
?? It's Tough:
Meeting people in unfamiliar cities (with no car or knowledge of the area) can be a huge challenge.
?? Doubting the Worth:
Many underestimate the benefits of more in-person meetings. But here’s a secret… even if actual meetings don't happen, reaching out to local contacts can still strengthen relationships in very important ways.

6 Outreach Methods to Maximize Your Time in Any City
How do you connect with the right type of people first when every minute of your time is pulling from that energy tank (which is already near exhaustion?)??
Let’s dive into the specifics…
1?? The Obvious Prerequisite:
You need to track where your people live.? It’s possible they live and work in different cities, so don’t get those two confused.
?? Reaching Out to Event Organizers:
The approach involves three types of event organizers:
?? Reaching Out to Other Speakers:
Look up speakers you know who will be at the same event or are based in the city. Plan to attend their talks and meet up afterwards to strengthen connections and referral relationships.
?? Connecting with Business Leaders:
Target C-level executives to discuss topics relevant to your expertise, like new technologies or industry trends. Use this as part of your ‘listening tour’ so you can stay in touch with how real business owners handle the issues in your speech.

4 个月This is so smart. So many speakers don't maximize the opportunities they already have on their calendar and leave a lot of $$ on the table as a result.
