Travel and Public Libraries

I have never visited Liverpool. Besides a certain band coming from the area, my father worked for a man from Liverpool. He lived there when it was known for being a fishing village.

If I were to visit Liverpool, I would walk down Penny Lane because it was a street before it was a song. One of the staunchest liberals I know and one of the staunchest conservatives both posted the Carpool Karaoke with Paul McCartney.

James Corden is polarizing. Sir Paul brings many together. Hearing that a library was burned down in riots- libraries are my cathedrals. I felt more at home in libraries than I ever felt in school. More is learned there as well.

Traveling more than average; I have visited different libraries. September is Library Card Sign Up Month. Just like credit cards- I have two. The Washington DC system is very good. I have used Fairfax libraries.

At one time I had a gold card. Someone said I should have a platinum library card. This card was a limited edition gold colored card for the system's fiftieth anniversary. When it expired I did not want to renew it because I would have a lesser looking card.

Fairfax has a vast system and not many DVD's. Legally they have a DVD section. It is not as definitive as their book section. If I were in Washington more frequently I would take on a card.

I work in Alexandria- why not enjoy their system? Because I work before the library opens and don't really want to visit that area on my day off. There are possibilities and different activities in different areas.

While visiting Denver, their main library was closed for renovation. Oh well, that has to happen sometime. In my travels I found a small brick library. The building has been there since 1951 and the staff had a lot to say about this small branch.

If I were to move to Denver, this library would be patronized. One reason I moved to Phoenix was its library system. Many Sundays were spent at Burton Barr Central Library downtown.

Scottsdale has a really good system and Maricopa County had some further out libraries. Some look to schools and education as to where they will live. I look to libraries.

Atlanta has a nice downtown library. Every library is different with individual strengths. While visiting Auckland I ended up at the Auckland Public Library every day. It had a Borders vibe. Lord knows that chain is missed.

Libraries seem off the beaten path. Did I create "Library tourism?" It is important to visit many points of interest. Libraries can be a nice surprise while traveling. There is access to different items in different cities. It shouldn't be the main reason to travel. It is a good one and any excuse to travel and explore is good.

Well said Thomas

Absolutely! Libraries offer a unique glimpse into local culture and architecture. It's great to see how they vary from place to place, and the friendly staff always adds to the experience. A wonderful way to support community resources while traveling!
