Trauma-Informed Supervised Visitation: Helping Children Cope Before, During, and After

Trauma-Informed Supervised Visitation: Helping Children Cope Before, During, and After

Last week, I hosted a webinar on trauma-informed supervised visitation, and the audience made it clear to me how many people need guidance in this area. I pulled together some of the key points from the webinar and created this handout. Feel free to share it, but please give me credit for creating it. I deeply appreciate your honesty.

This info sheet only scratches the surface of my webinar's full content, but if it makes a small improvement on the supervised visit process for even one child, it's worth it. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Scars to Stars Virtual Summit - FREE w/ Code

This virtual summit, hosted by the STAR Network , features a lineup of renowned experts who will share their knowledge on healing from narcissistic abuse and relational trauma. During my presentation, I will address the critical issue of safeguarding our youth from toxic abusive relationships (TAR).

Since the registration is free with the promo code BTTC, you can attend the entire event or just my portion from 11 - 12 EST.

In today's world, where social media and online interactions can often lead to increased anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation among adolescents, adults MUST be proactive.

I understand that this is a tough topic to broach with children. It's so hard to teach our children about abusive people, but understanding how to prevent and recognize the signs of abuse is crucial for their safety and well-being.

What You'll Learn:

- Identification: How to recognize the early signs of toxic and abusive relationships.

- Prevention: Effective strategies to protect children and teens from falling victim to abuse.

- Intervention: Steps to take if you suspect a child or teen is in an abusive situation.

- Healing: Techniques and resources for helping young people recover from relational trauma.

Empower yourself with the knowledge and tools to keep your loved ones safe. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from experts and connect with a community dedicated to fostering healthy, supportive relationships.

Quote of the Day:

"The question is always: what are we going to have to sacrifice in order to develop, in order to get to the next stage of our lives?"

- Adam Phillips

To me, this quote applies to childhood trauma because there will be things we need to sacrifice to help children heal and move forward. It could be a relationship, a habit, a job, or something less obvious. I encourage you to think about what you might need to sacrifice to help the children you love heal from trauma.

In Closing...

I hope you do one positive thing for your community this week. We are all struggling with the world we live in, and most of us are afraid of what the future brings. Adding value to my online and offline community is how I hold onto hope. If everyone did this, imagine the positive impact it could have.

The very first question I always ask is why is a supervised trauma-informed visitation happening? Is it court mandated? Is there a specific methodology as to why this is a good move? Is this a major trigger source? Does this open up wounds and reinforce the already existing trauma? Let's not run the trauma scenario simply to satisfy adult needs. Resilience can be built through understanding but sometimes a difficult decision must be made to avoid opening up and revisiting hidden wounds. I seek moderation so that a child can find their path to healing.

Very excited to get into this tip sheet! I just finished a 5 week wellness workshop for families who are reuniting. We worked with restorative justice to facilitate reunification meetings in a wellness inspired setting. Hoping to refine this workshop and bring it to more families looking for support.
