Trapital's back for 2020!
Hi all - I took two weeks off during the holidays to relax and recharge. It's great to be back! I'll be using this LinkedIn feed to share links from recent Trapital content and share important announcements.
Weekly article:
The Hip-Hop Touring Business is Broken - More rappers will pursue alternatives to the costly, risky, and exhausting business of touring. (January 9)
Member updates:
Tencent Finalized 10% Purchase of Universal Music Group, Coachella Trends Toward Influencers - What's next for Tencent, Spotify, and UMG now that the deal is closed, and what the Coachella 2020 lineup tells us about music festival strategies and the business of influencers. (January 6)
Gaming and Hip-Hop, French Montana’s Fake Streams, Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” Virality - Business opportunities in hip-hop and gaming, French Montana's fake stream scandal, and how virality has boosted the success of Roddy Ricch's "The Box." (January 10)
Two Trapital announcements:
1) Data resources: In the coming weeks I will add a series of resources that are exclusive to Trapital members:
- Indices: List of partnerships and deals major artists make in different industries
- Company trackers: Hip-hop entertainment companies, management groups, and record labels: Who's on the roster and management, and more.
This idea was suggested by a few members and it was already in the works. I've always enjoyed The Information's org charts, The PLUG's data library, and 2PM's executive library. These will be continuously updated resources available on the Trapital website.
To gain access to those resources and more, become a Trapital member.
2) Newsletter takeover next week: Next week I will swap newsletters with Cherie Hu, who covers music and tech at Water + Music. We will cover the same topic and share our perspectives on it. You'll get her article via the Trapital email newsletter next week.

Thanks! - Dan
