The Trap of “Perfectly”
Jennifer Certad

We often think we cannot do something if we cannot do it “perfectly”.
We cannot run the marathon if our record is not a sub-10 mile.
We cannot post if the picture or the video if it doesn’t have the perfect illumination or the perfect caption.
We cannot send the email if we don't have a great, completely out-of-the-box, new idea.
We cannot wear the bathing suit if we don’t have the perfect, summer body.
We cannot promote ourselves if we don't have a huge following.
We cannot invest in ourselves if we are not first millionaires or have perfect finances.
We cannot start something until we know how to do it "perfectly".
We cannot be this, do this, talk about this, or teach about this (whatever topic you are interested in) until we have accomplished that (all the accolades, all the certifications, all the proof) first.
The problem with the trap of waiting until everything is "perfectly" is that it keeps us playing small, not trusting ourselves, and being in the same place in our lives one year from now (or, even worse, a more wrinkly one, time is passing!).
This is a reminder, as much for you as it is for myself, to stop waiting for things to be 'ready', for things to be 'perfect', to have everything 'figured out'... And to start taking imperfect, messy action instead.
To start shipping your 'shitty' first drafts. And to start getting out there on the field, playing, trying, and becoming, one action, one day at a time.
