Trap Cropping for Insect Control -Chapter:-2

Welcome to Chapter 2

As we learn how Trap crops are going to help us with pest management in our garden & farm for sustainable and safe food production in Chapter 1. Now let us enter chapter 2 where we will see a few examples of trap crop which attracts specific pest and insects

So, wide-ranging organic pest control involves:

  • Diverse planting?to confuse pests
  • Including flowers?to attract beneficial insects
  • A few trap crops?targeted at pests you know you have in your garden
  • Crop rotation?to avoid pests overwintering in the soil

Here is a Few Examples of Trap Crop which attracts such kind of pest & insects.

?In addition to using decoy plants such as the above, other plants can be used to repel invading insects.

Chives will repel aphids. Basil repels tomato hornworms. Tomatoes repel asparagus beetles. Marigolds are not only detrimental to nematodes; they repel cabbage moths, too.

?Will using decoy plants completely eliminate your insect pest problem? Probably not, but if reducing the number of pesticides, you use in your garden/farm or increasing yields without pesticides is your goal, learning how to use trap crops may bring you a little closer to your ideal garden/farm and plenty of experimentation!
