Funding allocated to improve the East’s local roads

The Government has allocated funding to?maintain?roads in the East. Around £25m will be provided to?councils?in our region until 2025, helping to repair and?resurface?local roads,?cycling routes and pavements?which are essential for people to make safe and reliable journeys in public and private transport.

We also welcome the?indicative funding for the region over the next 10 years. This helps our local authorities plan repairs more effectively and drive better value for public money.?

We have consistently made the case to government for increased maintenance funding and longer-term funding programmes on behalf of our partners.

Rail station ticket office consultation?leads to positive result

We welcomed the Government’s decision to reverse the planned?closure of?rail station ticket offices and are pleased government has listened to the results of the consultation.

We responded in the summer setting out our concerns with the proposals, seeking reassurance any changes would:?

? Not make train journeys harder for people unfamiliar with the railway network and those with additional needs

? Support people to buy the best value ticket for their journey

? Continue to offer customers advice and support for ticketing purchases

? Have visible staff to assist with multiple customer needs

? Keep the network safe for both passengers and staff

We recognise the challenges within the wider rail industry to manage the costs of operations, but felt these proposals would make rail travel less attractive in the long term.?
