Here's How:
I am not sure whether many in localization realize but the business world was turned on its head again last week. OpenAI announced: "We’re rolling out custom versions of ChatGPT that you can create for a specific purpose—called GPTs. GPTs are a new way for anyone to create a tailored version of ChatGPT to be more helpful in their daily life, at specific tasks, at work, or home—and then share that creation with others. For example, GPTs can help you learn the rules of any board game, help teach your kids math, or design stickers."
In other words, anyone can now easily build their own GPT—no coding is required. You can make them for yourself, just for your company’s internal use, or for everyone. Creating one is as easy as starting a conversation, giving it instructions and extra knowledge, and picking what it can do, like searching the web, making images, or analyzing data.
What does it mean for the localization industry and translators in general?
The launch of the GPT Store, which allows anyone to create and launch their own AI products, marks a groundbreaking shift in the democratization of AI technology.
This platform is particularly revolutionary for linguistic solopreneurs. For the first time, translators without extensive coding skills can create and implement AI applications tailored to their specific needs. The use of natural language prompts and a user-friendly interface in the GPT Store lowers the barrier to entry for AI development, making it accessible to a broader range of professionals.
The introduction of custom Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs) is a major leap forward. These AI models can be tailored to specific use cases, including nuanced translation tasks. This capability opens up new avenues for integrating AI into the translation process, enhancing accuracy and efficiency.
The no-code system of the GPT platform is a game-changer. It enables translators to leverage their linguistic expertise to develop AI agents without the need for deep technical knowledge. This inclusivity fosters greater creativity and innovation within the translation industry.
Moreover, the GPT Store serves as a digital marketplace for these custom AI agents, offering potential revenue streams for translators. By monetizing their GPTs through sales, subscriptions, or usage-based models, translators can gain financial rewards for their innovations.
In essence, OpenAI's initiative empowers translators to actively participate in AI development, harnessing their unique skills to improve and innovate translation services. It heralds a new era where AI becomes a practical and accessible tool for problem-solving and innovation in translation.
A Step-by-Step Guide
Building your own GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) and harnessing its potential for revenue generation is a promising venture, especially with the upcoming launch of the GPT Builder shop. Here’s a simplified 4-step tutorial to guide you through creating and profiting from your custom GPT:
Step 1: Access GPT Builder
Step 2: Start with a Chat

Examples of GPTs
Following the launch of custom GPTs by OpenAI, creators have unleashed a wave of innovation, crafting unique and diverse applications that showcase the versatility of these AI models. Here are some standout examples:
Plain GPT: This GPT converts corporate jargon into plain English. It's particularly useful in a corporate setting, helping employees decipher complex terms and phrases. This application highlights the potential for GPTs to simplify communication in professional environments.
Blog Expert GPT: Tailored for specific writing styles like SEO, this GPT can help create content optimized for search engines. It's an excellent tool for digital marketers and content creators, illustrating the adaptability of GPTs to specific industries and their requirements.
Trends GPT: This GPT taps into the latest fashion trends, demonstrating how GPTs with internet access can provide up-to-date information. It's particularly valuable in fast-paced industries where staying current is crucial.
The Negotiator: Designed by OpenAI, this GPT helps users improve negotiation skills. While broad in its current form, it shows the potential for specialized GPTs that can provide industry-specific advice and strategies.
These examples underscore the versatility of custom GPTs, from enhancing personal productivity to revolutionizing entertainment and professional communication. They also highlight the importance of security measures in protecting the unique intellectual property of each GPT. The landscape of AI applications is rapidly evolving, driven by creative uses of GPT technology across various sectors. So what custom AI solution will you be making next?

1 年GPTs are great; I have created nine so far. Mainly to offload and gain more time for creative thinking. Here's the downfall I noticed: they tend to forget their configuration, which may become a major roadblock, especially in professional settings where precision and consistency are key. An automatic configuration backup or having a "remember" button, a quick fix to jog the "memory", would be great. Anything really that would have the AI reflect on their settings periodically to keep consistency, instead of playing the reminding game. Unless this is solved, it is no different from the Custom instructions functionality, or prompt repetition at each interaction. End of month GPT store should kick off. Hardly can I imagine any GPT monetized at its current state.

1 年I think this is changing everything everywhere...all we need to do is adapt our practices, the way we approach our tasks, etc. My dream GPT would comply with certain data security...I haven't decided yet.
