There are many things about my wife that I love.? One thing, however, that I’m continually amazed by is Jessy’s ability to speak three languages fluently and switch between them without effort.? Her multilingual skills were on full display over the past couple of weeks while we were in Europe, spending time with friends from France, Spain, Mexico, and the United States.? While it’s quite useful for our international travels, the value of her lived multicultural life extends far beyond making restaurant reservations or talking to the hotel clerk.?

Imagine the magic at the dinner table as she interprets stories and anecdotes, bridging gaps and nurturing understanding between friends from diverse backgrounds. Whether it's deep conversation or a light-hearted exchange, her ability to switch between languages with ease is nothing short of awe-inspiring.? Her skill isn't just about words; it's about the way she listens, seeks to understand, translates, and helps build relationships that transcend borders.

As a society that thrives on diversity and interconnectedness, the ability to speak multiple languages is an extremely valuable skill.? It’s also a skill with which I struggle (pero estoy aprendiendo)!? Somewhere amidst all the languages and dialects of the past two weeks, I realized I’ll never reach the level of multilingual mastery that I admire so much in my wife.? At the same time, I became aware that perhaps I already possess a form of multifaceted communication.

Much like my wife, who can communicate across languages, I find myself consistently translating concepts, thoughts, and ideas across various industry segments and stakeholder groups.? In any given day, I engage with transit authorities, parks agencies, city governments, college campuses, and downtown improvement districts.? The individuals and groups involved in these conversations could be any mix of industry executives, nonprofit leaders, business owners, or elected officials.? Drawing from my diverse work experiences, it’s here that I am able to build bridges and present layered perspectives.? Just as being multilingual opens doors to understanding cultures and connecting with people from around the globe, my expertise across industries enables me to translate complex problems into innovative solutions.? It’s my hope that my range of experience serves as a connection, fostering collaboration and innovation.?

In a world where experiences intersect, let us celebrate the diverse skills that make us who we are.? Through our unique abilities, we can contribute to a tapestry of understanding.? So whether we’re traveling the world together or working together, I look forward to fostering meaningful connections, shaping our communities, and enriching our lives.
