What's The Difference Between Weglot & WPML?
Weglot is an automated translation service that uses Google, Microsoft and Deep L technology to detect and translate your website content automatically in practically any language you would need.
WPML creates additional content areas on your website for alternate languages, in which a manual translation will need to be provided that will appear, when the user selects their chosen language.
WPML requires far more development time as well as organising and paying translators to convert your copy, then you will need to insert this into the website.
oh, and when new content is created or added, like a blog post etc - yep, you will need to do this again.
Weglot will translate this automatically for you even when new content is added or if you were to introduce a new language.

Any Downsides?
Of course with anything there are pros and cons, the main downsides to Weglot is the cost as your website grows in content or languages. In comparison to WPML there is no cap on words translated or languages - just your time, but that is the trade off.
Weglot charges a monthly fee for the service subscription which covers a fixed number of languages and number of words. The more content it translates and the more languages used - the more costly the monthly fee will become.
How Does Weglot Work & What Development Work Is Involved?
Weglot has a plugin for WordPress that when installed can automate much of the translation work.
From a development side, as shown in the visual above in the AIS Interiors website, adding a language switcher for users to toggle between languages is practically the only work that needs to take place.
However the tool works by automating the content on the page and creating a duplicate on Weglot's portal, here is where the content is translated and reinserted back on your website.
Although the service is automated, unlike Google Translate it does give you the flexibility to edit the translations if words or the local dialect are incorrect.
There's even a find and replace, so that any common used words will be updated once and any further time they are used - Weglot will remember how to translate them in that language in future.

So if you've been pressured or tempted to translate your website but struggled with the time associated with manual translation, then maybe Weglot is the solution for you.
