Transitions: Moving Into Your Purpose

Transitions: Moving Into Your Purpose

Sometimes, transitions in life are exceedingly hard.

When I made the decision to close my film business a few years ago, I really struggled with a part of me that didn’t want to let go.

A part of me that enjoyed the security of a monthly paycheque, the part of me that loved the attention and recognition I received as the Founder and Executive Director of a national non-profit (it gave me a great sense of pride to just say those words).

I understood it was time to move on though and truthfully, my spirit hadn’t been in my film business for a while.

But there was so much FEAR in letting go. So much fear in the unknown.

What would I do next?

I had no idea. I didn’t know what I wanted. In fact, I felt like an empty, scared vessel drifting aimlessly.

Fortunately, I had the gift of time and I invested it looking inward and asking myself over and over and over again, “what do I want, what do I really want.”

And soon, the answers started to bubble up.

Those answers were scary. Really scary because they were well beyond my comfort zone.

I was being directed to teach people how to listen to their Inner Wisdom.

Listening to Inner Wisdom is not new to me - I’ve been doing it most of my life which is why my life, in many ways, has been as easy and as beautiful as it is.

But teach that skill to others? Yikes, that’s uncomfortable!

It meant becoming more vulnerable and sharing a part of me I’ve kept hidden.

Talking about God, tapping into a higher consciousness and Inner Wisdom - this is stuff I only shared with those I was closest with.

Now I’m guided to teach this to others? No way!

Clearly, I eventually relented and I'm fully living into that purpose, and I couldn’t be happier, or feel more aligned with who I really am.

Whatever it is you are called to do, listen to it. Listen to that inner wisdom, that soul voice that is trying to guide you down your path to the greatest version of who you are.

Yes, it will be scary and darn uncomfortable. You may even feel like a fraud trying to step into something new. You may say, “Who am I to do that?”

Did you know most highly successful people have felt that way somewhere along their journey?

In fact, every time you ‘level up’ you will likely feel tinges of "imposter syndrome" creeping in.

These feelings are normal, you’re not alone.

There are a few things you can do to make the transition into your purpose or a new role easier though:

? Invest time in nature to get grounded and explore your feelings.

? Journal - write about the future version of you in present tense using “I am statements” (this is super powerful)

? Surround yourself with people who are courageously moving towards their dreams and goals (you’ll get inspired)

? Read biographies of those doing what you want to do (their struggles will inspire you too, and most people who have achieved greatness have had their own demons and challenges to overcome)

? Find a coach who can further guide you on your journey (I’d love to work with you)

The bottom line, make YOU a priority every day.

You have gifts, talents, skills and experiences that will serve the world, and in so doing, you will create a life for yourself that is full of love, passion and great joy.

Don’t let fear hold you back from stepping into the best version of you and creating the grandest, most beautiful vision for your life! You are worth too much to let that happen.
