Transitioning Swiftly Into Technology

Transitioning Swiftly Into Technology

First, I want to highlight last weeks' newsletter on INTERVIEWING. I noticed most of you missed it. You can read it right after this!

INTERVIEWING Newsletter

The tech industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. There is a wide variety of job descriptions in it. Yet, unlike other industries, those jobs rarely require a college degree, making it easy to transition into. This week, I’ll be guiding you on how to transition easily and quickly into tech while avoiding some common pitfalls along the way. Naturally, this newsletter is targeted at those already in non-tech jobs. Nevertheless, you can still gain from it if you’re just beginning your tech career.

Before taking the first step of transitioning into a tech field, you need to be certain a career change is a right thing for you. Sometimes, the environment you work in can make an otherwise fulfilling career stressful and unpleasant. If you are perceptive enough, you’d easily recognize that it’s your current job that’s the problem and switch jobs. Otherwise, you may start considering leaving a career you still love. To determine if a career change is best for you, watch my career drive video on the matter below.

Once you have decided to switch careers, the next question would be: which tech career? There are numerous tech fields out there, some more popular than others. If you are new to the tech industry, you would have, at least, heard of web development and mobile app development. You are probably reading this newsletter on a platform built by one of those development processes. But there are several more options to pick from besides those. But then, how do you decide which to go for? In the career drive video below, I talk about just that.

After determining the tech field you want to transition to, the next thing is to start learning. Depending on the tech field you have chosen, you could spend anything from a month to three months getting good enough for an entry-level job. To learn more about upskilling for your desired tech job, watch the video below.

When switching from one career to another, a good chunk of your skills would suddenly become redundant(can’t exactly perform a hemispherectomy in your code, right?). However, there are some you can transfer to your tech career. I made a video about how to recognize these transferable skills. You can check it out below.

Speaking of redundancy, if you have a professional brand —as you should— you would have to rebrand to reflect your career change, as the previous one would now become irrelevant. In the video below, I discuss how to go about this. Check it out to learn more.

Transitioning into tech can be done easily and painlessly, and the tips I share in the videos would help you do just that. If you’d like to binge-watch them, you can find them in the playlist section of the DiverseK YouTube channel or through this link.?

I won’t be hosting a live session this week, so nothing to announce on that front. If you haven’t watched the previous live streams, now is a good time to start. You can find them all on the YouTube channel. And that brings us to an abrupt end for this week’s newsletter. See you next week, ciao!

How's preparation for the holidays? I have something for you next week. Stay tuned!
