Transitioning from Command & Control to Happiness Coach

The world has changed; newer generations and the evolving dynamics of today's work environment demand a different leadership style. As organizations navigate complexities and embrace diversity, the traditional command and control leadership approach is giving way to a more collaborative, supportive, and inclusive model.

Leadership is not defined by a title.

Command and control often wield authority with a top-down approach, making decisions without much input from the team. While we used to reward top-down assertiveness, decisiveness, and a focus on results, today we need to concentrate on unleashing the power of our teams. I play around and introduce myself as a happiness coach. I know it sounds Tinderish (at least it always brings a smile), but the reality is that I need to be okay with not knowing. I need to be okay facing uncertainty and not having all the solutions but understanding how to unleash the power of each team member and surround myself with experts.

The time when we needed to know everything and have a solution for everything is long gone. I believe in encouraging open dialogue and active listening within teams, fostering an environment that values and respects diverse opinions.

Delegate responsibilities and encourage autonomy, empowering team members to take ownership of their tasks. Additionally, lead by example, displaying empathy, humility, authenticity, and a willingness to be myself with ups and downs.
