The Transition II
Transition from gas into electricity, succeeding my article of last week.
Halfway through the last century the generating of heat for industry as well the private sectors changed from coal into gas. A great improvement for the environment especially in cities such as London with their infamous charcoal fogs.
The dangerous particulates such as CO, CO2 NOx etc. are mainly produced by traffic, while others are vented by chimneys in high atmosphere. The application of gas for heating was available more than a decade ago, but the transition from coal into gas took us about sixty years. Nowadays the Dutch government is launching the transition into electricity before 2050, which is less than quarter of a decade. Comparing with the duration of the previous transition is this really realistic?
Why is this transition not realistic? It took us more than twenty years to create alternative green energy: windmills and solar power, which is not even covering the great hunger of the communication industry with its great variety of possibilities. (WIFI. twitter, Facebook, Linkedin etc.) What is won by LED lamination and isolations of buildings we lost on not predicted other activities. Following research of the British newspaper The Guardian even paying with bitcoins cost energy due to the verification system. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/nov/27/bitcoin-mining-consumes-electricity-ireland
This does not however discharge us of our responsibilities in saving energy and respecting the environment, but is also no excuse to launch impossibilities.
Several billions of dollars can be spent on solar cells project in the Sahara Desert and transport to the Netherlands, by the time it arrived voltage is decreased and power supply will be too low and what to do during the night. This is no challenge but an impossibility. Spend the money in looking for super conductors without power and voltage loss.
The over estimation of human kind is the nature of many people today.
"IF WE WANT WE CAN!"
The risks of wrong application of governmental budgets has never been so great, due to expecting the impossibilities.
