3 things to remember: 1. This time will pass. Often times we get caught up in the heat of the moment rather than what's in front of us. It's human and natural to get emotional but you need to focus on the opportunity in front of you. I can only tell you that each persons resolve is not formed by how many times they fall but how they get up each time. Trust me the sooner you start becoming grateful for whats coming, the sooner it comes.
2. Many others have gone through what you are going through and have landed better gigs. I have seen this over and over and over again and lived it in my last transition. Here is the scenario... I was called into my senior leaders office one night at 7:30pm, only to receive the news - "unfortunately due to blah, blah, blah... your role has been eliminated and blah, blah, blah... effective immediately so you can go home early... On my drive home, I was thinking "what am I going to tell my kids and thought the truth is always good and reminding them that everything was going to be OK. So when I got home, the kids instead of complaining of how late it was and why do I have to work so much, just hugged me and stated that they were glad to see me. So I immediately sprang the news... and told them that I would no longer be working long days and my kids reacted with dancing and yelling... Yay! Yay! Yay!...
Long story short after a terrible nights sleep, I got up early the next morning to get my favorite cup of coffee and my head straight. Upon parking my car, I said a little prayer to stop my mind from racing and in a moment of clarity, I sent a note to my previous employer stating that "I was available" before walking into the store and thinking to myself, "now what?". As, I paid for my coffee, the nice barista said, "thank you good looking" and "have a nice day". Suddenly, my head raised up a bit and even more as I started enjoying the rich aroma of my dark coffee and took my first savory sip. For a moment the universe was good... Minutes later as I walked out of the store... I noticed that I had a missed call and voicemail message. The voicemail message stated something like this.... oh my, we were just talking about you last week and wishing you were still here because a position has just opened up that has your name all over it... please don't do anything but call me immediately. (one of the best jobs and manager, I have ever had)
3. Remember this time and pay it forward, (help as many others as you can and remember #1). This is so true and I cannot advise you enough to help as many people as you can in your transition, cause... THIS TIME WILL PASS!
3 things to do: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1). Network, Network, Network…. Your success will come from your network, 1st connections and introductions to 2nd and 3rd connections.
2. Join in transition groups and do not attempt this Journey alone. There are a lot of groups, tools and professionals out in the marketplace that help hundreds in your shoes land jobs every year.
3. Get organized and build a strategy… looking for a job is a JOB! Both your organizational skills and network will improve your outcome and decrease your time on the bench.
Lastly, you are what you believe…. So believe in yourself and in your abilities.
You maybe jobless but you're not worthless!
