How to realize the value proposition of transformation when most the funding is for taxtech.
Tax faces a classic dilemma: while most of the budget is spent on taxtech, the real value proposition lies in transformation. Simply put, investments in technology misfire without transformation, yet the spotlight remains firmly on taxtech spending alone, instead of the more effective, synergistic combination of people, process, technology, and 'data'.
This trap is a classic one. Since the turn of the century, swathes of corporations have been trying to figure out digital transformation with largely unconvincing results. Tax is now in the same boat. The pinch points are similar, familiar, and abundant, although tax has its own distinct challenges. However, as tax relies ever more on digital platforms for data-driven regulatory administration, tax now must be in control of the tech just as much as it is with legal and business aspects today.
