Updates from Total Waste Management

IIM Bangalore

We are happy to announce that we have recently onboarded IIM Bangalore as our Total Waste Management client. Our services will ensure that all the waste generated at the IIMB campus is responsibly managed and reaches the right destinations for recycling and processing.

Brigade WTC Bangalore and Chennai

Our waste audit of Brigade’s World Trade Centres in Bangalore and Chennai concluded this quarter with impactful insights and recommendations on transforming waste management practices within their premises and ensuring that each stream of waste reaches a responsible destination for processing.

Flipkart

We’re excited to welcome Flipkart's Head Office in Bangalore as our latest Total Waste Management client. With a focus on responsible waste management, we’ll ensure that all waste generated at the Flipkart campus is properly managed, reaching the right facilities for recycling and processing and contributing to their sustainability goals.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)

We have successfully completed a comprehensive month-long audit for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bengaluru. Our audit provided detailed insights into each type of waste generated, offering a clear understanding of the best practices for responsible management through recycling and processing. We also delivered strong recommendations in our report to help HAL achieve end-to-end responsible waste management across their premises.

Zepto

We have successfully completed the first quarter of providing Total Waste Management services to Zepto, one of India's leading quick commerce brands. By managing wet, dry and reject waste, we’re helping 80 Zepto stores embrace responsible and inclusive waste management practices, driving sustainability across their operations.

Hosachiguru

We were delighted to conduct a Waste Audit and Waste Management workshop for Hosachiguru, a leader in sustainable farmland management. On Independence Day, they collaborated with us to pledge their commitment to effective waste management across all their farms, providing training to both their staff and co-farmers.

Updates from Event Waste Management

NEB Marathon

We participated in the NEB Bengaluru 10K Challenge, where 9,500 runners took part on 7th July. The event stood out for its sustainable practices, such as using compostable areca nut plates and reusable cups for food and beverages.

Zinnov Confluence

We were honored to provide Event Waste Management services for Zinnov Confluence 2024. The prominent tech conference attracted 1,500 participants over two days. Our team of event waste experts managed the sorting, transportation, and responsible management of waste, successfully diverting waste from landfills.

Namu Kini's Vegan Recommendations Festival?

Namu Recommends Vegan Market partnered with Hasiru Dala Innovations for waste management, diverting 0.5 tonnes of waste from landfills and providing income to 16 waste pickers. With over 3,000 attendees, the event successfully adhered to Solid Waste Management Rules, setting a strong example for sustainability.

Google I/O Connect

We were honored to provide responsible waste management for Google I/O Connect 2024 in partnership with Forty Five Positive Pvt Ltd. Held in Bangalore, the event diverted 5 tonnes of waste from landfills and created supplemental income for 26 waste pickers.?

LEARNING AND ENGAGEMENTS

Social Entrepreneurs from Japan

Today, we had the privilege of hosting a group of aspiring social entrepreneurs from Japan as part of the Zero-ichi Program by Borderless Japan. These bright students, aged 17-23, are exploring key global challenges through a social entrepreneurship lens. During their visit to Hasiru Dala Innovations, they delved into our work on Inclusive Circularity?, which integrates waste pickers into the evolving circular economy.

Shekar Prabhakar at the World Fair Trade Summit

Our CEO and co-founder Shekar Prabhakar attended the World Fair Trade Summit in South Africa. The experience of attending the summit was shared by Shekar in his quote below.

UN Conference, Bangkok

Recently, Krishna, our partner as a waste picker entrepreneur, participated in two impactful panels at the United Nations Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum in Bangkok. He shared insights on responsible business practices in the plastics recycling supply chain and discussed sustainable pathways toward a zero-waste future.?

Income Tax Department, Bengaluru

As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 initiative, our team from Hasiru Dala Innovations had the privilege of leading a Waste Management session for over 50 employees at the Income Tax Department, Bengaluru on 23rd September. Vishwanath C and G Nagaraj?from our team shared simple, practical ways to reduce waste in our daily lives. They also highlighted how HDI is promoting a Circular Economy, with a special focus on Inclusive Circularity? – making sure that waste pickers and informal workers are integral to the system.

Climate Party, Bengaluru

We hosted the members of Climate Party, a group actively facilitating connections between people seeking sustainable solutions. This eco-conscious party visited our MRF and Plastic Aggregation Centre to learn about waste management.?

Waste Management Leaders from Asia-Pacific?

Visitors from thirteen countries attending Bengaluru’s first-ever Asia-Pacific organic waste expo, visited one of our Total Waste Management clients to gain insights on how we conduct our operations with Inclusive Circularity? as our guiding principle.

Inventure Academy, Bengaluru

We were delighted to welcome the second batch of students of Inventure Academy to our Material Recovery Facility(MRF), 40 students gathered to gain insights into what happens to the waste once it leaves their premises.?

Farmers from GKVK

Farmers from GKVK visited our Waste-to-Energy Biogas Plant at Harohalli, Bangalore. They got a firsthand look at how organic wet waste from homes, offices, hotels, and restaurants is transformed into compressed biogas that replaces the traditional LPG which is a fossil fuel.? They were particularly interested in the by-product that serves as nutrient-rich manure, offering a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers while rejuvenating the soil.

Knowledge Sharing During Plastic-Free July

As Plastic Free July came to a close, our team took part in an insightful "Plastics 101" session, where we explored the history, types, and environmental impact of plastics. The session underscored the need for effective plastic waste management and sparked meaningful discussions, helping us broaden our understanding of the plastic crisis and solutions for tackling it.


Events and Press

Our co-founder @Marwan Abubaker shared his insights on refill models explored at Hasiru Dala Innovations during a panel discussion titled 'On Your Mark, Get Set...Reuse!' at the CII India Plastics Pact Third Annual Conference in Delhi.

Marwan emphasized that while refill models hold great potential for scaling sustainability, achieving success requires strong support and commitment from major brands.

Deccan Herald

@Nalini Shekar, Co-founder & Executive Director, Hasiru Dala, and Board Director, Hasiru Dala Innovations was quoted in the Deccan Herald speaking at the inaugural address of Bangalore’s first-ever Asia-Pacific conference on organic waste.

“Bengaluru is a city where citizens actively engage in lake conservation, solid waste management, air pollution mitigation, and many other aspects of climate action. Activism is particularly strong here. Karnataka, through the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, was one of the first states to promote participatory governance. The 74th Amendment further ensured this through local self-governance, creating a legal framework for citizen activism.”
