Transforming Travel for the Future

Today is a momentous day for Global Glimpse and the travel industry as a whole. When we began this work nearly 15 years ago, mission aligned corporate - nonprofit partnerships did not exist in the travel industry. Nor did a conversation about equity, access, and diversity in travel. Travel was for the elite.

Today Global Glimpse x Away launched Generation Travel, a movement to empower a new generation of young leaders through travel. Not only does this campaign capture the stories of our students and the powerful impact of our programs, it sets a new precedent for companies to champion access and diversity in the travel industry.

We’ve been working for more than a decade to change the face of travel. All too often, experiences that successful people value most in their lives, such as travel, are classified as "extras" when supporting young people from low income and underrepresented backgrounds. Here’s the thing: Transformative experiences transform lives. The basics are critical, but without experiences that cultivate hope and the belief that more is possible, there is nowhere to go.?

Over the past five years, we’ve seen the travel landscape begin to change as companies realize that doing good is good for business. With this changing tide, corporate travel leaders have worked to find ways to sustainably align their philanthropic work with their bottom line and they’ve looked to us for support in this work. Envisioning and building models for impactful cross sector collaboration in the travel space has been one of the greatest accomplishments of my career and today marks a special moment on that journey.?

For the very first time, a premier travel brand is sharing a headline message of access and diversity in travel. In launching a mission driven campaign during their busiest holiday sales season, Away is making an intentional statement that company values are inseparable from the bottom line.?
