Transforming Streaming: The Evolution of Paramount's FAST Pioneer, Pluto TV
In 2013, Pluto TV set out on a mission to entertain the planet, pioneering free, ad-supported streaming television, now better known as FAST. By 2019, Paramount recognized FAST's incredible growth potential and purchased Pluto TV. In the years following the acquisition, Paramount Streaming has established itself as an industry trailblazer. Paramount+ is one of the fastest-growing streaming services with nearly 68M subscribers, and Pluto TV is a global leader in the FAST industry, surpassing $1B in revenue in 2021.
"We’re ambitious in our mission, but that’s because we’re confident in our unique offering,” said Tom Ryan , co-founder of Pluto TV and Paramount’s President & CEO of Streaming. “As the only scaled media player with market-leading paid and free services, we have a clear advantage over our competitors that we believe will serve us in the long run.”
As Pluto TV celebrates a decade, executives Amy Kuessner , Jeff Shultz , and Valerie Kaplan discuss its evolution, what sets it apart in the streaming marketplace, and its place in creating free, ad-supported streaming.
