Transforming the State of Social Care

The CQC today released their report on the State of Social Care in the UK, which highlights two key points:

1) The majority of care providers are providing a "Good" level of service (77%)

2) Far too many providers are struggling to provide care to an acceptable level (21%)

The report shows that typically a provider's level of "Caring" is Good or Outstanding, which is a great achievement for the sector with <5.5% falling into Requires Improvement or Inadequate. This also highlights the main issues around the sector, below well led, fall to procedural issues such as effective record keeping, reactiveness, compliance and safeguarding.

The PASSsystem was created to address these issues

The PASSsystem was built to tackle issues faced by the sector, specifically targeting "Safe", "Effective" and "Responsive" areas of care provision, though accurate data capture, transparency, real-time alerting, help with compliance and reducing safeguarding issues, increasing ability to react as issues as they arise, staff training and monitoring, medication management, accurate food and fluid recording, all in a fully transparent, accurate platform.

Why K.L.O.E loves The PASSsystem

The CQC monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and publish what they find, including performance ratings to help people choose care. To achieve a uniform result across the sector they assess against their Key Lines of Enquiry (K.L.O.E), which are Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well Led.

The PASSsystem helps providers improve the standards they are able to deliver against the KLOEs by

SAFE: Reducing safeguarding issues by up to 34%, though mandatory tasks, instant alerts and robust audit trails (34% of Safeguarding issues are through Neglect and Omission). Reduction in medication errors of up to 62% (Medication errors on care of older people wards averaged 62 per 100 care of older people beds in 2014/15.111, Age UK)

EFFECTIVE: 50% reduction in assessment time, allowing providers more time to spend with their service users whilst simultaneously providing care to a greater number of service users. (Source https://bit.ly/2ttpVVk)

CARING: Building person-centred care plans for all service users, allowing someone's outcomes to be met at all times and re-assessed with ease.

RESPONSIVE: Real-time alerting systems to minimise errors and allow for reactive responses to issues as they arise.

WELL LED: A streamlined system to monitor effectively against outcomes, tasks, visit times and length and training.

Goes along way towards meeting a real time 'duty of candour,' I think professionals could find that challenging but doesn't mean it shouldn't happen! Innovative stuff , well done.
