Transforming Patient Care at CVS MinuteClinic
When you think of MinuteClinic, the first thought that likely comes to mind is “flu shots and sore throats.” However, what most people don’t know is that we’ve evolved far beyond acute services and offer a wide range of health care services. Whether you’re a first time patient, an older adult or a frequent visitor – we’re focused on delivering convenient, high quality care. And to accomplish that, we’re prioritizing becoming a primary care-enabled provider with expanded services that provide more comprehensive health care offerings that equip our patients with the tools they need to get and stay healthy.
At CVS Health, we work every day to make health care more convenient and accessible. And, MinuteClinic has been vital in delivering those convenient care options when and where people need them. For example, many of the services that patients typically see their primary care provider or another health care specialist for are now available at MinuteClinic. To name a few: women's health services, chronic disease management, STI treatment and even diabetic retinopathy exams.
While in the past patients most commonly thought of MinuteClinic for their acute health care needs, many now consider it as a convenient option when they are unable to schedule appointments with their PCP. Patients can also be confident that before each new service is added, we invest in extensive research, training and resources to help ensure that we are delivering high quality, evidence-based care.
In addition to hands-on training, our providers attend virtual courses and maintain continuing education requirements to improve the way they care for our communities. Further, each person seen is treated in a comfortable setting where compassion and communication are key – allowing our providers the opportunity to bring their heart to every moment of your health.

Another challenge we continue to work diligently to address as we transform our patients’ experiences is access to care. With studies showing that 80 percent of patients are currently waiting two to four weeks to get an appointment with their primary care provider, we’re proud to offer access to appointments on evenings, weekends and sometimes within hours. Also, if you’re unable to get to us in-person or would rather your appointment take place in the comfort of your home, we bring care to you via telehealth via E-Clinic or Video Visits with access to most of our non-urgent services, plus monitoring and managing chronic conditions like diabetes for existing patients.
It was recently discovered that 1 in 4 Americans forgo medical care because of health care costs. Our more than 125 services are affordable, we take most health insurance and we’ll be adding even more care options in 2022. With rates 40 percent less than the average cost of urgent care, we make it easier and more cost-efficient for all our patients.
