This discovery has reaffirmed the effectiveness of a structured meeting approach and inspired me to share it with you.


What is a 5STAR Meeting?

We call this weekly meeting the 5STAR for two reasons:

  1. ? Five-Star Quality: We aim to ensure these meetings are worthy of a five-star review. Just as you expect a 5STAR Uber driver or Airbnb, you should expect nothing less from your team meetings.
  2. ?? Memorable Components: The key components of the meeting spell out 5STAR, making it easy to remember the specific flow, which is essential for consistency and effectiveness.


The 5-STAR Breakdown

5 for the 5 Specific Topics: Spend 5 minutes on each of these topics to surface the hot issues:

  • ? 5-Minute Check-in: Open up and get ready to work on the business together. This initial step is crucial for aligning the team and transitioning from working in the business to working on the business.
  • ?? Scoreboard: Use numbers to ensure everything is on track.
  • ?? Team & Customers: Check if everyone is happy and celebrate any successes.
  • ? Action Items: Confirm if everyone did what they said they would.
  • ?? Rocks: Assess whether the company and individual priorities are on-track or off-track.

S for Select: Once all the issues are identified, select the most important topics to tackle first. Prioritize 1, 2, 3.

T for Tackle: Address the selected issues head-on and get to the root cause to make them go away for good.

A for Action Item Recap: Summarize the action items and cascade any necessary messages to the team.

R for Rate and Review: Evaluate the meeting’s effectiveness. Was it perfect? If not, why not?
