Transforming the manufacturing industry with AI!
Gauss Labs aims to transform the manufacturing industry by developing artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to the most challenging problems the industry faces. In this issue of Gaussian Waves, I will introduce the problem we have been focusing on lately towards this mission.
Across multiple #manufacturing sectors, the pressing needs for #miniaturization, #customization, and #sustainability call for end-to-end #optimization of manufacturing processes. Such optimization starts with increasing the #monitoring capabilities and, through them, learning what is actually happening in the manufacturing processes in real time. As vision is critical to driving a vehicle, monitoring is critical to running a factory.
Traditionally, in order to enhance monitoring, manufacturers had to install additional hardware such as sensors and equipment for #metrology and #inspection. This kind of physical monitoring, however, has several limitations. First, physical hardware involves considerable capital and operational expenses. Second, it takes up plenty of space and time for installation, queuing, and actual monitoring operations. Third, most monitoring hardware has a material environmental footprint in production and deployment. Consequently, hardware monitoring is bound to low-rate intermittent sampling of known knowns, hardly revealing known unknowns and unknown unknowns.
A question naturally arises: is there an alternative approach to overcoming these fundamental limitations of hardware-based monitoring? Our transformative answer is “Panoptes,” which provides advanced and extensive monitoring and metrology capabilities without adding new hardware by harnessing our state-of-the-art AI technology and a vast amount of manufacturing data. Named after the 100-eyed giant in Greek mythology, who can see everything all the time, Panoptes empowers manufacturers to see everything that is happening in their manufacturing processes in real time.
Panoptes consists of three AI services. Panoptes VM (#VirtualMetrology) predicts key variables of process outcomes based on equipment sensor data. Panoptes IM (#ImageMetrology) augments and accelerates physical metrology tools such as scanning electron microscopes. And Panoptes RCA (#RootCauseAnalysis) identifies root causes of anomalies and recommends engineering actions to fix them. These services have been proven in major high-volume manufacturing #semiconductor fabs for their reliability, robustness, and scalability. Panoptes opens up a new exciting era of software-defined (and AI-powered) monitoring and metrology.
