Transforming Lives Through Specialty Colombian Green Coffee

The world of specialty coffee is ever-evolving, with new practices and innovations continually shaping the landscape. In Colombia, a country renowned for its coffee, a remarkable shift is taking place. Traditionally, Colombian coffee farmers processed their cherries on their own farms. However, the introduction of centralized processing centers like El Puente has brought about significant changes, providing numerous benefits for farmers and the industry alike.

At Clearpath Coffee, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of this transformation. Our El Puente Social Project is a testament to our commitment to both exceptional coffee and the well-being of the farmers who produce it. Through this initiative, we purchase coffee cherries from local farmers and process them into honey or natural coffees. This practice, while common in other coffee-producing countries, is relatively new in Colombia and is rapidly gaining traction.

A Better Deal for Farmers

One of the most significant advantages of the El Puente model is the financial benefit it offers to farmers. By selling their cherries to El Puente, farmers receive an average of 18% above the local market price for their coffee. This higher remuneration is just the beginning. The true value lies in the time and resources farmers save by not having to process the cherries themselves.

Processing coffee cherries is labor-intensive and time-consuming. By selling whole cherries, farmers can redirect their time and energy towards other crucial activities. This newfound time can be spent improving other crops, enhancing farm management practices, or pursuing other opportunities.

Environmental and Quality Benefits

The El Puente Social Project also significantly reduces water usage in coffee processing. Traditional processing methods on farms typically use about 30 liters of water per kilogram of processed coffee. In contrast, our centralized facilities use only 4 liters of water per kilogram, making our process much more sustainable.

Additionally, our state-of-the-art facilities and controlled fermentation and drying processes ensure that we add substantial value to the cherries we process. This guarantees a higher quality of coffee, benefiting both the farmers and the consumers who enjoy our product.

We are incredibly proud to partner with Yunus Social Business and the Common Fund for Commodities, a United Nations Investment Fund. These partnerships enhance our ability to drive meaningful change and support sustainable practices in the coffee industry.

Exceptional Quality, Exceptional Coffee

For our customers, the benefits are equally compelling. The coffee processed at El Puente stands out for its exceptional quality. Our perfectly dried coffees, whether honey or natural processed, offer unparalleled flexibility for roasters. They serve as a robust foundation for blends, special editions, or filter coffees, providing endless possibilities for coffee enthusiasts.

By choosing El Puente-processed coffees, roasters and brands not only receive a superior product but also contribute to a positive impact on the lives of Colombian coffee farmers. This alignment of quality and ethical sourcing resonates deeply with today’s conscientious consumers, who increasingly value products that make a difference.
