This summer, I embarked on a journey that would not only sharpen my technical skills but also deepen my understanding of the profound impact data science can have on healthcare. My internship with the Novartis Patient Support (NPS) group at 诺华 Pharmaceuticals was more than just a learning experience; it was an opportunity to witness firsthand how data-driven insights can transform patient care and improve lives.
From the moment I joined Novartis, I was struck by the company’s unwavering commitment to pioneering advancements in medicine. Their mission to enhance and extend lives resonated deeply with me, and I was eager to contribute in any way I could. I arrived with a thirst for knowledge and a determination to apply my expertise in Python, machine learning, statistical analysis, artificial intelligence, Snowflake, and PowerBI to real-world challenges.
At Novartis, I wasn't just another intern, I was a member of a team dedicated to making a difference. My role involved developing machine learning models aimed at boosting operational efficiency, refining resource forecasting, and designing sophisticated data science solutions. Working alongside seasoned professionals, I delved into the vast troves of data at our disposal, extracting insights that would inform our approach to patient care and support strategies.
One of the projects that stood out was the development of a raw material estimation forecasting model. This wasn't just about crunching numbers, it was about ensuring that critical medications would be available when and where they were needed most. The stakes were high, and the challenge was exhilarating. I also took the lead in implementing a semantic similarity system designed to identify and correct discrepancies across data sources, an initiative that brought a new level of accuracy and efficiency to our processes.
While the technical challenges were intellectually stimulating, what truly made this experience memorable were the people I worked with. Collaboration was at the core of everything we did. Whether it was brainstorming sessions with colleagues or cross-functional team meetings, the exchange of ideas was always encouraged, and innovation was celebrated.

I was fortunate to work closely with and learn from Amulya Gupta , Hala Sweidan Sawaged, MS , Tushar Kandwal , Sandeep Grover . Their mentorship was invaluable, providing me with insights that extended far beyond the technical aspects of the job. They helped me see the bigger picture of how our work could lead to tangible improvements in patient outcomes and overall healthcare delivery.
Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of my internship was knowing that the work we were doing had a real-world impact. The models and systems we developed were not just theoretical exercises; they were tools that would be used to make crucial decisions affecting the lives of patients around the globe. Identifying key performance indicators for resource management and contributing to a more streamlined supply chain were just a few of the ways our efforts translated into better patient support.
As I look back on this summer, I realize that the skills and knowledge I’ve gained go far beyond data science. I've learned the importance of empathy and understanding in the healthcare sector, how every data point represents a person, a story, a life that could be improved or saved.
This internship has helped me with a newfound appreciation for the healthcare industry. As I progress in this journey, I am excited to apply the insights and expertise I'm gaining to drive ongoing innovation and make a meaningful difference in the world.
To everyone at 诺华 who has been a part of this journey so far, thank you. Your support and guidance have been instrumental in my growth, and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The future is bright, and I'm eager to see where it leads as we continue this work together.
