Transforming hospital operations with AI is not a luxury – it’s a requirement

If you were to ask any hospital leader today what keeps them up at night, it’s how to safely do more with less and shore up their economics. There are a unique set of challenges constraining hospital administration right now, including staffing shortages, the rising cost of critical supplies, drugs, and equipment, shrinking reimbursements, and increasing patient demand. The patient experience is getting worse as appointments are delayed and wait times increase. And the economics of health systems are as dire as they’ve ever been.?

In order for us to move forward, we have to look at how other asset intensive industries – like airlines, package delivery, and ride sharing – safely optimize capacity. These industries use AI and machine learning to create access, despite unpredictable demand. AI also helps these companies automate and lower costs. Healthcare has to take a page from this book and start viewing AI and analytics not as a tool for reporting, but as a predictive and prescriptive solution to manage capacity, minute by minute and hour by hour.???

I’ll be opening up LeanTaaS’ fourth Transform Hospital Operations Virtual Summit on December 6 to talk more about this subject, and share how over 140 health systems and 500 hospitals are already achieving ROI through AI to unlock scarce capacity. These healthcare leaders have achieved incredible results from deploying AI tools, including increasing prime time utilization by 20%; accommodating a 33% increase in infusion patient volume; and decreasing time to admit by 16% (despite an increase in volume). Staff are feeling the impact too as they experience less chaos, burnout, and provider alarm fatigue.

I’m honored to be speaking with some of the most forward-thinking and brightest minds in the industry, including a fireside chat with Angela Yochem , EVP Chief Transformation & Digital Officer at Novant Health and Brian Dawson, MSN, RN-BC, CNOR, CSSM , System VP of Perioperative Services at CommonSpirit Health . Additional sessions will feature top hospitals and health systems including Allegheny Health Network , Baylor Scott & White Health Medical Center of McKinney, Henry Ford Health , Kelsey-Seybold Clinic , NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital , SCL Health St. Mary's Medical Center, Smilow Cancer Hospital , The University of Kansas Health System , and UCHealth .

Our virtual summit is hosted in partnership with Becker's Healthcare and will take place over Dec. 6-7, 2022. The two-day program will connect over 4,000 attendees with health system executives, technology leaders, and industry experts to discuss how AI, ML, and data science solve critical challenges arising from staffing shortages and provider burnout, increased patient demand, and limited capital. There’s still time to join us . I look forward to seeing you there!?
