Transforming Global Staff Calls to optimize employee engagement: a use-case

With employees spread worldwide and meeting fatigue kicking in, my team and I were challenged to come up with a new, dynamic approach to Global Staff Calls that would increase engagement. Our mission was to give people the ability to be associated with the company’s story and leadership, no matter their geographical location.

Over the past few months, the team and I have successfully implemented this approach and we came up with an engaging and inclusive format. Here are seven learnings that have been game-changing in redefining our Global Staff Calls:

  1. Work with LIVE broadcasts – Providing multiple sessions to accommodate different time zones makes employees around the world feel included. Everyone deserves a personal experience.
  2. No slides – Replace traditional slides with interviews, videos, demos, and teasers to create a more engaging format.
  3. Live Q&A and voting sessions – Give employees a voice and an opportunity to engage with the company’s leadership.
  4. Include a sense of humor – It’s like adding sprinkles to a cupcake, it makes the experience a lot more enjoyable.
  5. Ask the difficult questions – Build trust and a feeling of transparency by addressing topics head-on.
  6. Create FOMO (Fear of Missing Out): include surprises, games, and announcements to make people excited about being part of the call.
  7. Include leadership – Have the CEO and executive team members join the sessions and have them interact with employees to create a connection on a human level.

None of this would have been possible without the communication team.
