Transforming energy use across three key sectors
Welcome to the October issue of Power Up! Today, we're featuring Olivier Blum 's latest blog on energy optimization through prioritizing the three biggest sectors (buildings, industry, and transport). We also have Manish Pant 's blog on tackling energy poverty with minigrids; reducing the environmental impact of buildings with material selection; investing in future energy professionals with digital training; and lastly, highlights from the recent Enlit Europe event in Milan. Enjoy — and please drop a comment with what you'd like to see more of in this newsletter!
By Olivier Blum , EVP Energy Management
Today’s energy demand continues to increase rapidly as a result of a rising global population, economic growth and climate change. At the same time, 60% of global energy production is currently lost or wasted before it even reaches consumers. To meet the escalating demand, optimizing energy use is essential.?
The ‘demand’ side of the energy equation is an often overlooked component of tackling the climate and energy crises. Properly addressed, it could decarbonize 55% of the energy sector by 2050.?
One major solution is what we call Electricity 4.0 — the combination of electrification and digitization. This helps transition to cleaner energy and optimize energy use, prioritizing the three sectors responsible for 94% of energy-related emissions: buildings, industry, and transport.?
Tackling energy poverty: the necessary rise of minigrids
EVP, International Operations Manish Pant 's latest blog post highlights the urgent need to expand access to reliable and affordable clean electricity for over 1.5 billion people, particularly in developing countries. This forms part of a swift energy transition to address energy poverty and mitigate climate change.
Minigrids and microgrids are crucial for providing independent and affordable power to underserved populations, with the potential to bring electricity to around 500 million people by 2030.
Standardizing minigrid designs and production is key to accelerating their widespread adoption, offering benefits such as cost reduction, simplified manufacturing, and enhanced safety.
How we can navigate AI use cases more responsibly
If we want to use artificial intelligence responsibly, how do we make sure we're using the most appropriate tool?
Hear from Chief AI officer Philippe Rambach in The AI Journal on why AI solutions that maximize output and minimize environmental footprints can address real-life problems, while aligning with our company missions.?

How to reduce environmental impact of buildings
Our experts from the Sustainability Research Institute explain why we should focus on four key materials — steel, cement, concrete, and bricks — for significantly less embodied impact in buildings.
Educating future energy professionals by investing in digital training
As the world transitions toward sustainable energy solutions and increased automation, demand is growing for skilled professionals in the electricity sector.
We're proud to offer educational programs supported by technology. These can play a pivotal role in addressing disparities and extend learning opportunities to remote and underserved communities.
Highlights from Enlit Europe 2024
We're thrilled to have been the Diamond Partner at #EnlitEurope 2024 in Milan. Our leaders shared valuable insights throughout the event, including the opening keynote by Gwenaelle Avice Huet , EVP, Europe Operations, as she emphasized the importance of competitiveness in driving the energy transition, urging industries to prioritize skills, innovation, and action.
In addition to engaging panel discussions, we showcased cutting-edge solutions focused on the Grids of the Future, empowering our customers to lead the energy transition. Check out highlights from the event here and other activities by following our Power & Grid LinkedIn page .?

1 周Thanks for sharing, an informative-insightful article, Schneider Electric. Congratulations, on new role, & Best wishes, to Olivier Blum, Global CEO-elect, to achieve, many more, milestones! Also, Best wishes, to Jean-Pascal Tricoire, Global Chairman, and 'Team Schneider Electric', for all your future endeavors, and to achieve, many more, milestones! Syed Awees, ACCA. Syed Suheb.
Minigrids and microgrids, empowered by AI and digitization, can optimize energy efficiency by prioritizing high-consumption sectors (buildings, industry, transport). To reduce 60% global energy loss, implement: smart grids, predictive maintenance, energy storage, IoT sensors, and real-time monitoring. Enhance energy efficiency through building insulation, LED lighting, and industrial process optimization. Electrify transportation and promote renewable energy sources. AI-driven demand response and load management can minimize waste, ensuring 30%+ energy savings and a sustainable future.
