Transforming Egypt’s Logistics Landscape in 2024: Infrastructure Developments

Egypt is progressing toward becoming a regional and global logistics hub. Through strategic investments in ports, logistics zones, and transportation networks, the country is enhancing its position as a key player in international trade. Today we explore the most significant developments that are transforming Egypt’s logistics and port infrastructure this year.

1. Seven Integrated Logistics Corridors: Connecting Egypt’s Trade Network

Egypt’s ambitious Sustainable Development Plan 2030 aims to build seven integrated logistics corridors. These corridors will link production hubs with major ports along the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, using rail and road networks to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of trade logistics.

Key routes include:

Sokhna to Alexandria: Connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

Arish to Taba: Enhancing connections between northern cities and ports.

Safaga to Qena to Tartour: Strengthening southern Egypt’s logistics network.

These corridors are not just about moving goods; they are designed to support Egypt’s urban growth by linking these transport routes with new urban areas.

2. Expanding Port Infrastructure

Egypt is investing heavily in its ports, with major expansions aimed at increasing cargo capacity and streamlining operations:

Damietta Port: Completing the eastern breakwater project marks a key milestone in turning Damietta into a major global logistics hub. This will reduce congestion and improve international shipping capabilities.

Sokhna and Dekheila Ports: With over $1.6 billion in foreign investments, these ports are being upgraded to boost capacity and provide multimodal transport integration. Expected revenues from these projects are projected to exceed $5 billion.

3. Dry Ports and Logistics Zones: Decongesting Seaports for Smoother Trade

To handle the increasing flow of goods efficiently, Egypt is expanding its dry port infrastructure. These dry ports are inland facilities that process customs procedures and store containers away from crowded seaports, reducing delays.

6th of October Dry Port: Recently Launched to relieve pressure on nearby ports.

10th of Ramadan City and Borg Al Arab: New dry ports under construction will further integrate logistics operations.

4. Safaga Logistics Zone: Enhancing Connectivity between Seas

The planned $50 million Safaga logistics zone will play a critical role in linking the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea ports through Egypt’s high-speed train network. This zone is designed to serve as a key hub for the collection and unloading of goods, increasing Egypt’s logistical connectivity.

5. Towards a Greener Future: Sustainable Logistics Initiatives

Egypt’s focus on sustainable development is also driving changes in logistics. By embracing green business models and integrating environmentally friendly practices in logistics zones and port operations, Egypt is positioning itself as a forward-thinking hub for eco-conscious global trade.

With these transformative developments in logistics corridors, port expansions, and green logistics, Egypt is fast becoming a logistics Giant. As the country moves forward with its Sustainable Development Plan 2030, it is clear that these investments will not only boost trade but also support long-term economic growth. The future of logistics in Egypt looks bright, and it is set to be a key player in the global supply chain.
