Leader to Leader, a podcast from Healthcare IT Leaders, features bi-weekly conversations with some of the brightest minds in healthcare.
On our latest episode (S1, E10) Patrick McGill, MD MBA of Indiana-based Community Health Network describes his role as the organization's Chief Transformation Officer.
In his discussion with host Ben Hilmes, MHA, FACHE , Dr. McGill says change is a constant in healthcare and that organizations need to adapt. "If I’m not making people a little uncomfortable, we’re not transforming anything," says Dr. McGill. "And so we need to move. Now it might be an inch at a time, or it might be a mile at a time. But we need to move the organization forward."
Dr. McGill's department is responsible for all of IT, among other functions. He says his background as family physician gives him a unique lens through which to view technical innovation.
"I still practice. I was in clinic today, seeing patients and I’m very proud of that. I think that gives me the ability to walk the walk because I have to experience everything that we’re transforming in the organization."
