Civil Engineering - Construction - Land Development
In a world increasingly concerned about the environment, it is critical that structural engineering, architectural and civil engineering professionals consider the environmental impact of their projects.
?Sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) are an excellent option to achieve this. Some of the benefits of SUDS are:
Some examples of cities that have successfully implemented sustainable urban drainage strategies are:
1. Costa Esmeralda, in Argentina
According to a UNESCO article, the DINAGUA Floods and Urban Drainage area team implemented sustainable urban drainage systems to solve urban flooding problems in this city.
2. Bogota, Colombia
A study conducted by the Environmental Engineering Research Center (CIIA) of the Universidad de los Andes, in Bogota, developed a technical guide for the design and construction of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) for the city.
3. Merida, Mexico
According to a proposal for sustainable urban storm drainage systems for Merida, this initiative is derived from the Municipal Strategies for Urban Resilience that seeks to strengthen the capacities of urban systems to face the challenges of climate change.
