Transforming Care Delivery for Diabetes
World Diabetes Day was launched in 1991 by the IDF and the WHO in response to the rapid rise of diabetes around the world.

Transforming Care Delivery for Diabetes

Today is World Diabetes Day, and for the occasion I have reflected on the fact that more than 415 million people around the world have diabetes, and almost half (46.5%) don’t know it. From Mexico to Mauritius, and Boston to Bahrain, diabetes and related conditions contribute to a significant portion of global health spending. For World Diabetes Day, talk to your peers to raise awareness about this devastating disease which impacts 1 out of 11 people globally. Here at Siemens Healthineers, we are proud to offer HbA1c testing at the point of care. It is one of the many ways we are working to transform care delivery and make communities everywhere healthier.

Whether in a physician’s office, a pharmacy, or even a flea market, POC HbA1c testing enables providers to influence preventative lifestyle changes and support the growing demand for convenient walk-in healthcare support. By measuring HbA1c, doctors can gauge average blood sugar levels from the last 2-3 months, and therefore provide a more tailored treatment plan. HbA1c measurement can also show whether treatment plans and lifestyle choices have been effective. We’ve seen this work in a small Texas community with a high prevalence of diabetes. A passionate doctor set up a diabetes clinic in a flea market, making HbA1c testing accessible in the heart of the community for patients who might lack transportation or other resources to visit a doctor’s office or hospital.

This November, I encourage you to talk to your doctor and your peers about HbA1c testing and diabetes risk factors. View our infographic for more statistics, symptoms, and how to have a healthier lifestyle while living with diabetes: www.siemens.com/learn-about-diabetes #diabetes #worlddiabetesday
