Transforming African Agriculture: USAID and OCP Group's $100 Million Partnership
In a landmark move for African agriculture, USAID and OCP Group have announced a transformative partnership. During a visit to University Mohammed VI Polytechnic, USAID Administrator Samantha Power signed an agreement to launch the "Space to Place Project" and the "Rock Phosphate Amendment Project." These initiatives will leverage local soil and climate data to create tools that guide farmers in optimizing fertilizer use and improving soil health, ultimately boosting agricultural productivity sustainably.
This $100 million collaboration, with OCP Africa investing $30 million and USAID contributing $40 million, aims to enhance food security across sub-Saharan Africa. By providing farmers with data-driven solutions, the partnership seeks to address the global food crisis effectively. As Ms. Power noted, this initiative harnesses geospatial technology to offer real-world predictions and solutions, while OCP Group's CEO, Mostafa Terrab, emphasized the goal of empowering African farmers to feed the world sustainably.
