Transformed by Coaching: How Powerful Practice Supported Me.

I frequently see leadership cleverly summarised in a variety of graphs or visual representations, with wiggly lines representing the highs and lows / successes and challenges that school leaders face on their leadership journey – and it totally resonates. School leadership is tough!

Don’t’ get me wrong, leading a school can be the best job in the world and incredibly rewarding, but more often than not, it’s blooming hard work and can test the most resilient of leaders – sometimes pushing them to breaking point.

Sound familiar?

As head teacher, I have faced many difficult challenges, that have tested my resilience and pushed me to my limits. I’ve suffered sleepless nights and doubted myself on many occasions (and still do from time to time), fearful of the unknown and scared in case something went wrong. The weight of responsibility could at times feel overwhelming.

Would you have known how I was feeling inside – probably not. I was good at wearing my head teacher mantle and putting on a smile!

So what changed?

I DISCOVERED COACHING!

After a lot of research (because getting the right coach is important) I took the plunge and found myself some support. Through coaching, I found a safe space to reveal my truth and in return I built up a brilliant relationship with my coach who gave me the space to reflect, explore and challenge my beliefs and regain my confidence and ‘spark’ that I had sadly lost.

My story may sound familiar and not a million miles away from what other school leaders experience - overwhelmed but soldiering on regardless, wearing their head teacher mantle, in fear of being judged.

That’s why I coach head teachers and senior school leaders because I know first-hand how lonely school leadership can be.?

Why go it alone and worry on the inside, when you can make real progress and experience a renewed sense of self and confidence in what you do with the support of a coach.
