Transformative thinking: 15 mindsets to enable transformational change today.

Transformative thinking: 15 mindsets to enable transformational change today.

1- I am a change facilitator

I challenge and support teams to help them operate in a zone of optimal performance.?

I provide and refine frameworks for meaning-making.?

I do not need to have all the answers, I look for better questions instead.?

2- I am a culture engineer

While culture change is unlikely, I am proactive to refine and optimize specific aspects of culture in the teams I support.?

I understand that different aspects of the culture could be enhanced, for instance:

  • Rituals?
  • Norms & rules
  • Decision-making?

I know how to use Culture Mapping tools like the Culture Design Canvas .?

Enhancing culture compounds over time and help us reinforce commitments to change.?

3- I move the needle?

I do not and I help others not confuse activity with impact.?

I avoid busyness and help others do the same.?

I help others focus and eliminate distractions in their routines.?

We constantly enable dialogue to understand what is the 20% that can give us 80% of the results.?

4- I approach the tension

Conflict and tension are opportunities for higher-quality conversations.?

This starts with the quality of the conversation with ourselves.?

Change happens when I and others approach the tension in a way that is effective and solution-focused.?

5- I shape the organizational narrative

The words I use and how I communicate make a difference as they reinforce or shift organizational narratives.?

It starts with self-awareness and noticing when we may be resisting change ourselves.?

6- I feel comfortable feeling uncomfortable

‘A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor’.?

Organizations and the world we live in are uncertain.?

I do not need to have all the answers or total clarity to make progress.??

In the action and co-creation with others, we gain clarity and grow together.?

7- I am intentional and deliberate?

I am aware of my cognitive distortions and I do not let them get in the way of developing quality relationships.?

I know who I am when I am at my best and I make deliberate and intentional efforts to be congruent with my best version.

I walk the talk of change and I role model the behaviors and values?I want to see in the business.?

8- I have high EQ?

People and organizations are chaotic in nature, I expect complex human systems to be ‘irrational’ at some point.?

I do not get frustrated when this happens.?

These are opportunities to enable dialogue and bring key stakeholders on a journey.?

9- I make agreements for change?

Expectations not communicated cannot be met.?

Agreements are visible.?

I go from expectations to agreements to reinforce commitments for change.?

10- Change leadership can be enabled by anyone in the organization?

My role is to co-create the ‘systems’ that enable people to do their best work.?

I help people play to their strengths (avoiding overuse), and find new and innovative ways to apply their strengths to drive transformational change.?

11- Future proofing the organization starts today?

I invest time in understanding business strategy and developing effective change strategies and plans to future-proof the organizations I support.?

The ‘Adapt or die’ mindset is more relevant than ever.?

12- I reframe failure and focus on learning and growth?

’Failure’ and setbacks are part of the change journey.?

A few relapses do not mean we are not making progress.?

I co-create ‘safe to fail’ experiments to drive innovation and growth.?

13- I am a systems thinker

Outcomes are a byproduct of the ‘systems’ we have in place across people, processes, technology, and the environment.?

Effective systems for change are self-sustaining.?

We have a Continuous Improvement Plan to optimize these systems proactively.?

14- I am evidence-based

I help stakeholders accelerate the feedback loop and look for new sources of feedback to drive effective decision-making.?

I help others go beyond data to identify trends and develop insights that are meaningful to the business.?

I collect data to develop a single view of change and discuss it with the leadership team and key stakeholders.?

I leverage approaches grounded in scientific research, whenever possible.?

15- I serve

I am in the business of helping others.?

I give more than I receive, one conversation at a time.?

What’s your favorite mindset?

What would you add?

Fernando great list! I talk a lot about leaders being “role models” for what change we want in the business, and I love the systems thinking too, it’s hard to get teams to shift their mindset particularly about this one! ??
