In last few years the healthcare industry has welcomed many disruptive technologies across the globe from gaming, banking, manufacturing, IT and other industries. India is also catching up fast with the booming ecosystem of start-ups and young engineers who want to do something unconventional.
Virtual and Augmented reality is one such technology which has already find a place in operation theatres in India. In future, AR and VR can be used for psychological treatments through "placebo effect" or to make patient "feel good" in the hospital environment. With the help of 360 degree cameras VR and AR can help medical students to understand the human anatomy better on the design concepts of undersea aquarium. IoT is another disruptive concept which is changing the telemedicine scenario in a big way in India.
Similarly in not so distant future the adoption of blockchains to maintain electronic health records in a secured and authentic way, additive manufacturing of medicines, self-driving/ drone ambulances, can shape and help the Indian healthcare system to leapfrog the best in the world.
The key is to adapt fast and acknowledge the power of disruptive innovations for Healthcare.
