Businesses don’t exist for is but for what could be. A company with human-centered culture exists to transform people. The business is all about people and their transformation. The main business of a Truly Human Company is transformation. And the culture is what set the pace for transformation.

For transformation to happen, companies need to have a soul, a heart that beats with a purpose. That is the essence of the Transformation Circle. Transformation starts with a purpose. People must find meaning at work and through what they do. Without meaning people will stay at the lowest level of the pyramid seeking to survive.

Purpose is the heart of the Human-Centered Culture. People want to find meaning at work. They want to work for a purpose and a cause that is bigger than life and not just to make a living or survive. When they find a purpose, and meaning for work, their work will become a calling. That means they will bypass every limiting belief and perform at their peak.

Business executives who want to bring out the best from their people should bring provide them with a purpose for work and a cause to advance. People are inspired by a cause that is bigger and larger than life. When they lap into a purpose, they get inspired. Inspiration is the influence of the divine on humans.

You won’t need to motivate someone who is inspired because inspiration stimulates their divinity and make them truly human. Without a purpose, we all want to just make a living and just survive. However, with a cause, they bypass survival and start really living.

What makes an organization a healing organization? When it provides its people with a purpose and a cause. The human soul finds healing when we find meaning in life. People should see their work as an extension of their purpose on earth. They will go to any length to ensure that they achieve the cause.

Transformation happens after people find meaning at work. When a company exists for a cause, the culture becomes transformational to the employees and the business model (strategy) is transformational to the customers. This is why purpose is at the heart of the Truly Human Business Model Canvas and Truly Human Culture Canvas.

In most cases, employees have a lot to do at work but they don’t have a why to do it. When people have a why you don’t have to tell them the how. They will find it. They become innovative. It is human nature to be innovative and creative.

Culture should drive your recruitment and power your leadership. When an organization continually markets its purpose, it will attract people who want to join it to advance the cause it exists to advance. Those who are looking for a place to survive will not be attracted to it. When your employees and customers are attracted to your cause, they will be transformed into evangelists. They will constantly look at ways to help you realize why you exist.

When your employees are transformed by a cause, they will become engaged. It is impossible to have a truly human and great company without having a purpose that provides meaning to your people. When they find meaning at work, they know that their time in the workplace is well spent and that they matter. They are living for something. Their work is a means to fulfilling their purpose.

More and more people want to be part of something that is greater than life. Its your responsibility to provide them with that. They want to make a difference. They want to know that what they are doing matters. They want to be on a mission with their work. They want work to become a calling. They want to be transformed to be all they can be. They want to have the opportunity to realize their full potential as a human at work.

However, your employee will only love being transformed when you take care of their needs. Without economic value, you will hurt the people you want to provide meaning for. No one wants to do a great thing while hungry and can’t pay rent. Transformation only becomes important after the most basic human needs are settled.
