Do you ever find yourself staring at your computer screen, struggling to stay on task or concentrate? You're not alone. Studies show that the average person loses up to two hours of productivity each day due to distractions. Two hours!
We all have days when we struggle to stay focused and productive. The worst part is that once you start getting derailed, it can be nearly impossible to get back on track.
When you're feeling overwhelmed or stuck, taking a few minutes to clear your mind through meditation can work wonders. Research shows that practicing mindfulness can reduce stress, boost creativity, and enhance problem-solving skills.
Meditation is really just practicing mindfulness while not doing anything else – and it’s simple to get started.
Find a quiet place and a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down, with your back straight and your body relaxed. Close your eyes or lower your gaze, and take a few deep breaths to settle in. Whenever your mind starts to wander, gently bring it back to your breath.
To stay mentally sharp and able to solve problems, you need to build time into your schedule to recharge. Plus, research on creativity suggests that we come up with our greatest insights and breakthroughs when we are in a more meditative and relaxed state of mind.
Take two minutes of quiet time each day to think about how you’re going to attack a situation, solve a problem, or handle an upcoming tough conversation. Make it a priority to schedule this time into your calendar and do not allow any interruptions.
The video below actually walks you through one of the meditations I do when working with teams. It’s a great way to get everyone centered, focused and present. Give it a try:
