Each time I want to take a step in a new direction or learn a new skill, I recognize that I will first need to create the space in my life to welcome in that new thing. If I want to meditate more in the morning, I will need to carve out the time to do it. If I want to go on long walks in the park, I will need to create space in my day or week where I can go for a walk without interruption.
It sounds simple enough, but the reality is that it can be really hard to do. Our lives are already full of activities and habits and people and work. It’s hard enough to get done what we already have on our plates, much less to find even more space in the day for something new.
And yet, with every single new habit I’ve created, it took:
- Desire
- Understanding my why
- Commitment
- Consistency
I needed to develop a practice and truly commit to undertake that practice every day in order to figure out if this new skill or habit could truly fit into my life and support me in the ways I hoped it would.
Earlier this year, I signed up for Gabby Bernstein’s 21-Day Manifestation Challenge, (I had done it the year before as well,) and it blew my mind. Simply by committing to show up every day for 21 days and work through different exercises or practices that Gabby provided each and every morning, I was able to see a shift in my mindset and feel the impact of being consistent in my practice. I felt proud of myself for being able to show up every day and saw the remarkable wins that came through each week as I continued to wake up and press play on the challenge.

Once that completed, I embarked on the ?21 Days of Calm by Calm? (the wonderful meditation app) where I showed up every morning to meditate. It had been hard for me to sit down in stillness, by myself, to relax into meditation and I knew I needed help. Just deciding to do it every day wasn’t enough. The structure of a 21 day “program†helped me to feel like I was making progress and held within a sacred container – showing up for myself each and every day.
I know the power of commitment and just how much my life has changed when I’ve been able to develop habits and practices that elevate my life to the next level.
