Transfiguration Sunday

We reach Transfiguration Sunday, the last Sunday of the Season of Epiphany, this weekend on February 19. This Sunday is a peak experience on the Mountain Top before the penitential depths of Lent that begins next Wednesday with Ash Wednesday.

Liturgy is a powerful change management tool. Liturgy is always preparing us for the season ahead with all of the changes that will result. Transfiguration Liturgy is like a bookend on this side of Lent that matches Easter Sunday on the other side of Lent - when we will see the resurrected Jesus. This Transfiguration Sunday reminds us that Lent and Winter won't last forever - new Life and Spring will arrive and we need to get ready.

On this Transfiguration Sunday we also get a glimpse of what we could be - we see Jesus transfigured in glory as a role model of what is possible. On Ash Wednesday we will be reminded of who we are - bodies that will die and return to ashes. During Lent, we have the opportunity to transform our life - from loneliness, sickness, and death to a deeper connection to God and community and thus, new abundant life.

"As we prepare for Lent with a vision of what can be, may we take time for reflection.

As we read of a new vision of Christ on this Transfiguration Sunday, may we also ponder a new vision of ourselves and of our community.

And, as we continue on our Journey once again, may Light lead us on to new growth through learning and action. Amen."

Offertory Hymn: "'Tis Good, Lord, To Be Here"

Communion Hymn: "God of All Time"

Communion Hymn: "He Came Down"

Ablutions Hymn: "Come and Fill our Hearts with Your Peace"

Closing Hymn: "Singing Songs of Expectations"
